Senior Industrial Designer – Audio Electronics

Design is at the center of crafting those experiences, and as a Senior Industrial Designer you’ll collaborate with a team of engineers, creatives, and manufacturing professionals within the organization to bring our brand values to life.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Design both sonically and visually beautiful product experiences
  • Generate and present “human-centered” design concepts
  • Prototype continuously while testing designs with users ranging from beginners to industry professionals
  • Create high quality digital models using SolidWorks as well as other modeling and design tools to produce technical drawings and communicate design intent
  • Leverage a variety of production techniques ranging from 3D printing to CNC machining while ensuring ease of manufacturability and a smooth handoff to production
  • Collaborate closely with the Earthworks Audio leadership team to develop well-balanced solutions

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education requirements:

  • 4 year or advanced degree in Industrial Design (related design or engineering degrees considered)
  • Minimum of 3 years industrial design or product design experience
  • Portfolio of work that demonstrates your competencies
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD and graphic design software
  • Excellent communication skills including; verbal communication, hand sketches
  • A deep appreciation of aesthetics
  • Capable of taking ideas from concept to prototyping using a variety of methods and resources
  • Understanding of audio and acoustics (or the desire to learn)

Pay: Starting at $70,000

CNC Lathe Operator Apprentice

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Working as part of a coordinated production team CNC lathe operator apprentice follows the learning path outlined by the foreman. The apprenticeship is designed to last a full year but may be increased or decreased upon demonstrating mastery of essential functions. The position will also include additional cross-training on other aspects of the production process and supply chain management.  Tuition reimbursement is available for courses in a related field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position. Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; and adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Monitors initial runs and does an inspection to assure conformance to blueprints and quality plans Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
  • Coordinates tasks through the production management system for direction and reporting on the effort
  • Lays out work, sets up, and operates computer numeric control (CNC) lathes to perform machining operations according to required tolerances and specifications.
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters.
  • Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances.
  • Programs and sets up lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; and proving part programs.
  • Accurately document inventory consumption and invested labor time within the production management system.
  • Uphold a work environment where interruptions to Earthworks teammates are work-related or otherwise absent. Foreman is to approve apprentice’s absence from machine shop if the technician is needed for other company objectives.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts in streamlining workflow processes and building industry-leading, iconic products.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at the Milford Manufacturing location is required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Some exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can occasionally be loud. Safety equipment is available and must be used.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

This position is active and may require some standing, walking, and lifting (up to 75 pounds, and occasionally over 100 pounds with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position; three 12-hour days per week.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

HS degree or GED required. Active enrollment in or completion of a two-year college degree in a relevant vocational tech program is required.  Some experience in team-oriented electro-mechanical manufacturing is preferred.

Process Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Process Engineer directs and coordinates activities supporting all phases of process improvement (yield, cycle time, etc.) equipment installation qualification, and provides guidance with process documentation (work instructions, training, etc.).  Receives transfer of new process development by ensuring the appropriate transfer criteria are met/implemented.  They are also responsible for many different assignments regarding manufacturing; they may design, optimize, and oversee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Create detailed work instructions and visual aids to maintain acceptable production productivity and quality standards
  • Estimate production set up and run times, material costs, and perform time studies to provide cost analysis
  • Propose, sponsor and lead projects that will improve manufacturing performance, reduce costs, improve yields, or reduce cycle time using Lean tools. (analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout)
  • Assist in designing testing methods to determine process capabilities, standards, and validate process requirements.
  • Participate in value stream mapping exercises to determine and define business improvement areas.
  • Work with plant safety and engineering groups to ensure all concepts meet plant safety requirements.
  • Create and maintain production data and Routings
  • Assist in the setup of machines and equipment within production areas. To include selection, set-up, start-up (including programming)
  • Assist with SMED activities; may include designing jigs or fixtures for equipment.
  • Coordinate TPM activities such as preventive maintenance; a collection of data through PM’s, participate in maintenance planning, coordinating planned work outages, and continuously improving the maintenance planning and execution process.
