After I started miking his guitar amp with SR25s, he came back to me a couple weeks later and said that he could actually hear the difference between a worn plastic guitar pick and new plastic pick, because of the detail coming from the Earthworks microphone.
The SR25s for drum overheads are amazing. With the SR25s, the kit sounded super-open and natural—without the brittle top end I frequently hear from a lot of other condenser mics.
With a kick drum and these two overhead mics, I don’t need to add any other mic inputs into the drum kit. That’s how powerful the overheads are in drum miking.
What I love about this microphone is its ability to accurately capture the sound of my equipment with absolute clarity even without added compression, equalization and effects.
I was just floored. I could finally hear the definition of the cymbals and the openness of the drum set.
