When it was time to record his latest album Haiku, Earthworks Artist Doug Hammer knew he wanted to capture every note, chord and resonance of his Schimmel concert grand piano.
Doug pairs the Earthworks QTC50mp with the 1022 ZDT Preamplifier. Using these together allowed Doug to get the cleanest, most transparent sound.
“It was really important to me to have the technology to record the instrument as true as possible.”
Doug compares microphones to paintbrushes, in that their characteristics can really add to the sound or take away from it.
For Doug’s needs, he really wanted to capture the beautiful sound of his piano and have a microphone that could be used for many more applications than only piano.
Check out the video below to find out why Doug used the QTC50mp and 1022 for his album and hear a few samples from Haiku.
