Q&A with Emika

Q: How long have you been using Earthworks products?

A: I have been using Earthworks microphones for the past 10 years for recording vocals and pianos in studio recording sessions.

Q: What Earthworks products are you using?

A: QTC40 and PM40 PianoMic

Q: What is your favorite thing about Earthworks products and their performance?

A: I was recommended the QTC series and started using the QTC40 for recording my vocals. I have a signature breathy and soft vocal sound. I like to record my vocals with close-mic techniques and to be able to make them sound very intimate sounding, but also with a strong presence. It’s a hard thing to get right, but with the QTC40 it captures the pure essence of my true voice without me needing to adapt or change my singing to work with the mic. It is very responsive, sensitive, and robust enough to capture exactly what is there in the sound. It changed my approach to studio recording and gave me a lot of confidence as a recording artist with mixing and producing my own vocals.

Q: Best tip for using Earthworks?

A: Close your eyes, relax, and trust the mic.

Q: Career highlights?

A: I recorded my first symphony with the Prague Metropolitan Orchestra, some four years in the making. My fans paid for the record through crowd funding and it was a huge project filled with love, creativity and friendship.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

A: Everything is vibration.
